Many associations between being blind and enlightened have been made. It has been said that a blind person have the ability to see invisible things. They are able to â€Å"see† into the future. Though they don’t have physical sight, they still have another type of vision. In the play Sophocles’ King Oedipus, Teiresias, the blind prophet, told King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta the truth. King Oedipus started his life with a fate that he would kill his father and marry his mother. Trying to prevent this fate from actually happening, Oedipus parents, Laius and Jocasta sent him to the mountains when he was born to die. However, their mission failed when a shepherd found Oedipus and saved him. The shepherd passed Oedipus to Polybus and Merope. When he got older and learned of his prophecy, he ran away thinking that they were his biological parents. On his journey, he ran into Laius and ended up killing him. Continuing his journey, he answered the riddle of the evil Sphinx and became the king of thebes. After becoming king of the kingdom, he married Jocasta. He basically lived out his fate that he never knew he had. The city of Thebes began to go through tough times and the prophet said it was the polluter of the lands. Oedipus called Teiresias and Teiresias told him that the polluter was the King. As Oedipus searched deeper, he realized that he was the polluter and that his fate has come true. Then, it is not surprising to learn that music is closely related to math. The mathematical application in music will be discussed in this essay. Rhythm and Frequency To understand the relation between math and music, the primary step is to study the nature of rhythm, frequency and amplitude. Everything around us has its own pattern of rhythm, from the motion of protons and neutrons, to the beats in rock music. According to Garland (1995), rhythm is determined by the periodicity of vibration of certain object in its surrounding substance, or medium (p. 28). Colby O’Donis, Kardinal Offishall, Ryan Leslie, 2 Pistols, Trey Songz, Lloyd, Ray J, The Dream, Plies, Mario, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne flooded the stage along with a special appearance by Jim Jones and a guest appearance by Birdman. However, scheduled performer Cherish was not present. Doors opened at 3 p.m. and the show started an hour later. Ticket prices ranged from $25 to $95 without surcharges. Tickets were a must-have at this event, because it had been long sold out. Weather was not in the concert’s favor, and as it ended up down pouring halfway through, but no spirits were broken. The beginning was enjoyable, but the crowds’ spirits boosted when 2 Pistols took the stage. They preformed their hit song â€Å"She Got It† and the crowd ate it up. His performance was not too flashy, but it was indeed full of energy. Performing â€Å"Boss,† â€Å"100 Million,† â€Å"Speeding.† and parts of â€Å"We Taking Over,† this performance was definitely one of the most long awaited act. However, the anticipation factor of Rick Ross’s performance couldn’t hold a candle to Lil Wayne’s. The main act was by far the most wanted at the concert. He performed â€Å"I Feel Like Dying,† â€Å"Leather So Soft,† and â€Å"Lollipop† along with many other mixes. A big surprise was when Lil Wayne started the song â€Å"Stunting Like My Daddy† with Birdman, his unexpected guest, arriving on stage. Birdman also helped perform â€Å"Champaign Pop Bottles.† The concert ended around 10 p.m. and a sea of people flooded out of the Comcast Center and either headed to their cars or to buy their annual Summer Jam t-shirt. T-shirts ranged from $20-$50, which wasn’t bad compared to the price of refreshments. Bottles of Aquafina water went for a whopping $4 a bottle. By 10:20 p.m., the parking lots were bombarded by people searching for their cars. The end of an amazing night was not amazing in any sense of the word. While it took mere minutes to enter the Comcast Center from Route 140, it took more than two hours to exit the parking lot and make it to Route 140. With Route 495 literally seconds from the Comcast Center, it took another 20 minutes to reach the on-ramp. With all the performers finished and the crowd thinning out, only one thing was on everyone’s mind – â€Å"I can’t wait for next year!† And, in fact, we can’t.
